Rules [Top]
- Badminton games will be played under IBF rules.
- The home team will allow the visiting team 15 minutes general team warm-up before the start of league matches.
- Before each match starts, a 3 minute warm up is allowed.
- Each team Captain must fill in the names of their players on the score sheet. Captains then exchange score sheets at the same time, in person, and fill the names on the opponents' score sheet.
- All matches shall be best of 3 games to 15 points except the ladies singles, which shall be best of 3 games to 11.
- 10 minutes grace is allowed before a match is declared a default. DEFAULT should be written next to the name of player and signed by the captain.
- Both team captains must sign the score sheet and the winning team must mail it to: Lily Lai, 94 Centre Street, Dover MA 02030, within 7 days after the match or email to: lilylai@comcast.net.
- Each team will consist of at least 4 men and 3 women. Undergraduates should constitute a majority of the team.
- A player can only play a maximum of two matches.
- FORMAT AND ORDER OF PLAY: (a total of nine matches)
- 1st Men's Singles
- 1st Ladies' Singles
- 2nd Men's Singles
- 2nd Ladies' Singles
- 1st Men's Doubles
- Ladies' Doubles
- 2nd Men's Doubles
- 1st Mixed Doubles
- 2nd Mixed Doubles
Some men may end up playing only one match.
- Late arrival of a team member: To accommodate the schedule of players, the order of play can be changed if both team captains agree. All matches must be completed in the same evening.
- Home team must have at least two courts available.
- A team will play one match at home and one away against each team.
- Home team is responsible for the shuttles.
- Players keep their own score.
- In the event of a tie in the South/West section or North/East section, the winner will be determined by the head to head results. First by who won head to head, then if tied, then by total matches won head to head. The college with the most matches won will be the winner for their section.
- Playoffs:
- At the end of the league, the winner of the North/East and the winner of the South/West will be in the play off for the perpetual trophy. Home court advantage will be determined by the better winning percentage, where
winning percentage=matches won/total matches.
- If tied, then the winner will be determined by Winning Percentage based on individual matches.
- If there is no South/West league this year, the winner of the North/East league will be the champion. But, if there is a tie in the North/East league, home court advantage will be determined by the total games won and both teams will play the playoffs at an agreed date and time.
- A perpetual trophy will be presented to the winning league team, to be held until the end of the next league.
- All disputes and complains should be made in writing to John Lim (email jjsa@juno.com) within 7 days.
